Purpose

This matrix defines the competencies required for roles critical to the AI Management System (AIMS) and identifies how competence is evidenced and maintained.

Competency Requirements

Principal AI Engineer

Required Competencies: • ISO 42001 knowledge • AI/ML expertise • AI risk management • AI ethics and governance • Leadership and communication

Minimum Evidence: • Advanced degree or equivalent experience • 5+ years AI/ML experience • ISO 42001 training certificate • Current role performance

Recommended Development: • Annual ISO 42001 updates • AI governance conferences • Ethics certifications

AI/ML Engineers

Required Competencies: • ML/AI development • Responsible AI practices • AIMS process knowledge • Data governance basics • Risk awareness

Minimum Evidence: • Relevant degree or certifications • AI/ML project experience • AIMS training completion • Code reviews and project work

Recommended Development: • Platform-specific training • Annual responsible AI refresher • New technology workshops

AI Governance Committee

Required Competencies: • AI fundamentals • ISO 42001 overview • Risk oversight principles • Ethical AI awareness • Document control

Minimum Evidence: • Professional experience in domain • AIMS orientation completion • Committee participation records

Recommended Development: • 2-hour AIMS orientation • Quarterly AI updates (30 min) • Annual ethics training

Client-Facing Roles

(Marketing, Customer Success, Product Managers, Project Managers)

Required Competencies: • Basic AIMS awareness • AI Policy and objectives • AI communication guidelines

Minimum Evidence: • AI Policy acknowledgment completed • Role-specific AI briefing or assessment • Understanding of AI features and products

Recommended Development: • Product AI feature updates • Access to AI FAQ documentation

All Employees

Required Competencies: • Basic AIMS awareness • AI Policy and Objectives

Minimum Evidence: • AI Policy acknowledgment completed

Recommended Development: • Annual refresher on AIMS • Access to AI FAQ documentation

Evidence Location

  • Formal Qualifications: HR files (degrees, certifications, resumes)
  • Training Records: HR system and/or Confluence
  • Performance Evidence: Performance reviews, project deliverables
  • Committee Participation: Meeting minutes and decision records

Review

This matrix is reviewed annually or when roles change significantly.
